We're beyond excited to have the insanely talented Louise Dearman with us. She's already made waves and won over countless music fans, and she's just dropped her latest gem—a soul-stirring cover of Duran Duran's "Ordinary World." You know the kind—someone who can take a classic tune and make it feel brand new, like it's the first time you're hearing it. And that's exactly what she's done with "Ordinary World." So yeah, our sweet haven, SoundVille, has prepared an exclusive interview with Louise just for you. Read on below.

Louise, your new single 'Ordinary World' is a fresh take on a classic '80s anthem. What drew you to this song, and how did you approach adding your unique touch to it?

Born in ‘79, I was a child of the 80’s with all the incredible artists and influences that era gave us. I loved Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’ and have recently met lots of people who love it too and rate it as a part of the soundtrack of their life. I wanted to cover a song that has a great pedigree and fanbase of its own and I’m really glad I made this choice. I love it! I think for the most part we stayed true to the essence of the song that Duran Duran created. It’s still recognisable on first listen. The melody and hook all intact. It’s not a radical cover. The female voice adds a new dimension and I felt like I was able to lean into a vocal where I could share my range. I hope Duran Duran like it!

Looking ahead to 2024, can you share any exciting projects or collaborations you have lined up? What can your fans look forward to?

Well right now I’m really excited about Ordinary World, and my follow up single ‘The Scientist’ (Coldplay). These tracks are both on the ‘Trinity’ album and I know we have a lot of promo, live performances, listening parties ahead so I’m excited to see all of that come to fruition. It’s been great fun so far but lots of adventures ahead!

How has your experience in musical theatre influenced the way you interpret songs for your solo music projects?

It’s become second nature now, but in training there was a massive emphasis on ‘acting through song’ and this helped me when interpreting new material. In Musical Theatre to help with building a character or story, but I always apply it in my approach to pop or contemporary material. There is always a story to tell.

Music often creates a bridge between the artist and the listener. What kind of emotional or intellectual response are you hoping to evoke with your rendition of 'Ordinary World'?

The track was a new direction for me and whilst I grew up with the amazing original version by Duran Duran, I know that a number of my younger fans will be unaware of the song and I’m excited to create further awareness of it, the beautiful lyric and melody.

Could you share some insights into the technical moments of recording 'Ordinary World'? Were there any particular vocal techniques that played pivotal in crafting your version?

My voice is like my best friend. I know it backwards. Whenever I have a concert or live performance coming up I have my various rituals and warm ups to make me feel prepared and ready. Studio recordings are a different approach but can be a little more intense as I’m potentially performing for a recording that lives on forever. I felt rested before recording ‘Ordinary World’ and I was able to focus on the song and its story.

With summer in full swing, do you have a favorite way to relax and enjoy the season, especially between your busy schedule?

I am a lover of a holiday in the sun, particularly Ibiza, where my family and I visit when I get a break in my schedule. The vitamin D, sea and the beach is an incredible tonic for rejuvenation.

You've had an incredible journey in the arts. Do you have any rituals or beliefs about luck that you feel have guided you along the way?

I try not to be too superstitious but I do like to be super organised and prepared. I also like to get a feel of the space before performing, I’m always the first to get ready. I like to know my material comfortably. I believe we create our luck and as cliched as it may sound, what has always served me is to work hard and be good to people along the way.

After a bustling day of rehearsals and performances, what's your favorite way to wind down and find a moment of peace?

I’m a total home body! I love nothing better to chill out in my own space. I’m really fortunate to live close to the sea, so a lovely walk with the dog along the beach is so good for clearing my head and sorting the mental files.

In many of your roles, you explore deep emotional connections. How do these portrayals influence your personal views on love and relationships?

I would say that every role that I have tackled in my career I have brought a little of my own life experience, in love, relationships to help build a character. To draw on truth, is great foundation for building a character with depth. I know and respect everyone’s processes are different but It has always worked for me.

When it comes to treating yourself, what's one luxury or indulgence you can't live without?

My first answer would be something like a nice massage or facial but truly, quality time away with my family, in the sun, being present is definitely a luxury I cannot live without.
